I have cayuga ducklings

I have 4 cayuga ducklings they are about 3 months old I specail ordered them from a feed store, but they look all black. They are suppose to have a green tint to there black. How long does it take them to get there adult colors?

They should get their adult feathers at about 20 weeks, or 5 months. Some cayugas get greener than others. A good diet makes a big difference in how their color turns out, too.

Our Cayugas had most of their adult feathers and color by about 6 weeks. The green did vary significantly between ducks. Lighting makes a big difference on how visible it is too. If they have lost most of their down, you should be able to see their color.

Hmmmm. Well they have a really well diet! I feed them great. But they look all black. They are probably 2 1/2 months old still. Seem to be getting there adult feathers. I have rouens too and they are still in the process turning different colors. They are in a huge 1/2 acre area so lightings good. Do Black Swedishes and Cayugas look alot alike for the first few months? There heads look like there is a tint of green in the sunshine. Do Cayugas get as green as the east indies? Pictures say yes, but it sure doesnt look that way.

They're not old enough. I have a Cayuga drake and he didn't get a tint untill he was three months.

With our Cayugas, the color varied greatly between birds. We had one with a lot of green, absolutely gorgeous. Another only had a little bit, primarily on the head and it was hard to see unless the light was just right. I imagine the color changes as they molt and get new feathers, but most of the down was gone on ours at 6 weeks.

I got 5 Cayugas from my local grain store as well. I wouldn't worry too much about the green if your not planning on showing, I'm sure they are beautiful! Mine started getting the the iridescent green look right before 2 months(they are 13 weeks now). One of my drakes has a darker head with less green, but other than that they are quite 'colorful' in the sunlight, I am going out with my good camera today to try and get some good photos showing off their color. Would love to see a pic of them.
