I have some bad news out of the 48 eggs we started in my incubator ONLY 1 chick made it i found out that the buddy i had bought the hatching eggs from that his rooster is very old & so are most of his hens they were only 7 formed counting the one that did hatch & the rest didn't form at all so we have named him LUCKY or if it turns out to be a hen her name is going to be LUCY . I am ordering 26 of the Black Jersey Giants & 2 Roosters of the BJG our chickens aren't quite old enough to try a hatching they aren't even a year old yet & thier eggs are still pullet sizes . it's just a part of having & incubating eggs

Wow, that is awful. How irresponsible to sell eggs as hatching eggs when they knew their birds were older and less fertile. Did you let your buddy know that his "fertile hatching eggs" actually aren't?

I definitely understand wanting to wait on incubating eggs from your young birds. Mine aren't quite a year old yet, BUT they have been laying for several months, and their eggs are good size. Otherwise I wouldn't attempt it!

I hope the BJG chicks you order arrive happy and healthy.

I plan to incubate my pullets' eggs in July. They've only been laying about a month now, but 3/5 are laying at the size of store bought eggs already. The other two are decent, one's a silkie, I am hoping by July they are all decently sized, if not, then I will only be incubating from the 3. It will be the first time incubating our own eggs. They will be 8 months old at that time.
