I have had it !!!

So what would you do if someone warned you and then your dog got shot in their yard the next day? Would that be justified at all in your mind or is it never ok with you? You seem to want it both ways and in real life it rarely works that way.

if i was warned and i was irresponsible eough to allow my dog into the neighbors yard then by all means shoot it. i will show you the same respect.

Licenced guns held for legitimate reasons and kept locked may be OK. However, there's a very irresponsible attitude about (I don't mean on BYC) that is leading to many deaths. The movies must take at least some of the blame for that, I suppose.

Here's how it is in two other countries just for contrast:

In the UK, hand guns are illegal in the hands of civilians. Not even gun club members can own them. Police carry guns only for certain duties and selected, trained, armed officers have to be called if there is, for example, a siege. You can get a licence for certain types of long barrelled gun if the police support your application to the court. Farmers and gun club members are seen to have good reason to hold weapons if they are of good character. The farmer must keep his guns locked in a special metal cabinet with his ammunition elsewhere. Gun club members leave their guns at the club. Some hunters can have shotgun licences. These are regulations that were tightened considerably because people in the UK didn't like to have their children massacred at school. Unfortunately, the teenage drug gangs in some bad urban areas have no problem getting illegal weapons but at least they shoot only each other. In simple terms, in the UK you can yell at an inconsiderate driver in the fairly safe knowledge that he won't blow your head off. Anyone in the UK who responds violently in self defence could be on a serious charge. Knock a burglar down your stairs in the middle of the night and you may be on an attempted murder charge. Let him beat you half to death and you can wag your finger at him.

In Thailand, things are different. Any Thai can get a gun licence and hand guns are favourite. The police carry fancy hand guns of their own choice. Civilians are supposed to keep their guns at home for self defence. Most do but the guy that cut you up on the way into town may stop you and but a bullet through your head if you blast your horn at him. It's a very rare occurrence but indignant drivers are playing Russian roulette with those idiots. If someone trespasses on your land and attacks you, you can shoot him dead. I guess it's easy to convince the police here that he attacked first. I could pick up a gun licenced to my wife and use it to defend her in the home but couldn't go waving it about on the land and I couldn't get a licence because I'm a foreigner. One problem here is the combination of heavy drinking youths who have access to hand guns - loose cannons of the first order.

Neither regime is at all satisfactory.

You can argue any way you want about gun laws and this probably isn't the place to do it. My point is simply that you should not just go blasting away just because you have an inconsiderate or selfish neighbour. Once that starts it goes nowhere good.

Ok...after reading all these posts the plan is......shoot....dump it in a sinkhole and don't post it on BYC.
