Darling, the only way you can have too many is if you cannot afford to care for them all! My four are just absolute delights to me, they are what I can afford to feed now, but make no mistake, next year there WILL be some more chickens! : starts counting in her head : a blue orp, a barred rock .. an RIR....
I agree... if you have so many that you can't afford the time or money to care for them, then you have too many. I think I might be reaching that point...feed is getting sooooo expensive! I need to start hatching/selling birds so I can earn my keep!!!
Barred Rocks also do really well up here. They're sweet and personable, and are egg laying machines like the RIRs... You'll like them.
Good Luck with that, Alaska. I only wanted two.. then added 3 more 2 weeks later, then added another 2.. and I called this week only to find out my feed store was not going to be getting any more chicks until next season.
Now, I'm waiting to order some from MyPetChicken!! your chicken family is NEVER complete. Welcome to the addiction!
I'm still wondering if I'm starting out too big with 15 - but I'm going forward with the plan no matter what! If we could only get that freakin' coop finished.....
If I get anymore my DH will make me live in the coop with them. We have three dogs, two cats, two parakeets, and two kids. Well now 8 chicks. Seriously. I have to be done.
For now.

There is NO help. Hey I bought 6 and now I am sitting here each night debating which hatchery to order from and whether I order 15 or 25! I cannot help because I have the disease too!
