Oh, a canvas used to cover the floor while painting....is called a Jackson Pollock...I never knew that...We just call them old canvasses here. Normally we throw them out when they get as bad as yours is.
 
That looks more like geese to me.
Ahh. it is the work of geese......I should have known. I owned geese once. They broke my heart, the waterer's, the fence, the sidewalk, and now the canvas....I hate geese!
