I have one that's at about 30 hours since external pip, so just for grins I peeled the shell away, and guess what I found? Blood, which means that even at 30 hours post external pip it is not ready!

Just for fun, now that I am waiting here with the duck experts, can you sex a Mallard at birth? If not, how long does it take? And how soon do ducklings want to start paddling? And what should they paddle in? I mean, water of course, but what kind of container?
