I have no idea what I am doing

While he is small I would not try to leave him outside alone in his coop/run. @WVduckchick what do you think?
@Miss Lydia

I don't think i would personally ever try to keep a lone duckling. I don't mean to sound rude or insensitive, it's just that ducks are flock birds, and in my opinion, need to be with their own kind.
Having said that, I hatched some ducklings and ended up with a loner that a friend of mine took in. I was able to see her for a long time (until a predator got her). She was a good house duck for several months, until my friend got more ducks. Some people are cut out for it, others aren't. My tiny call ducklings went outside at 2 weeks old, in the cold, with a heating fan, because i couldn't stand the mess and stench inside. I'm a bit ashamed of that, but they are happier in a normal environment, so I'm much happier for them!

Sorry, didn't mean to write a book. :oops:

He is not outside. The coop is in my kitchen at the moment but we can't even use it he goes nuts in there. Right now he is in a 15 gallon fish tank at night and jumps and now hits his head on the screen on top. Ugh I'm so stressed I don't know what to do next all I do is worry about him getting hurt

He needs a friend or two IMHO

They ARE flock birds. Psychology is everything! He would be so much happier! Just saying if you had two more it wouldn't be more trouble, it is just how they are!

We can interpret what he is saying: I am lonely and confused and I don't have a duck mother....please give me some flockmates so i know who I am!

Get an extra tall, opaque plastic tote... and screen for the top... to put him in... that way he can't hit the top with his head, or if he hits screen it has some give to it so shouldn't hurt him... with the glass being clear, he is getting stimulation constantly, opaque tote will cut out a lot of that... give him a mirror and tape pics of yours and Michael's faces up on the inside walls...

And here's the biggie... when you put him to bed for the night, ignore his antics... may take a few days, but once he doesn't get attention by throwing fits, he will settle down and stop... tough love, daddys...

Its so hard to walk away when they want to just be with you! I'd try the mirror and everything ravyn said. I also left the radio on for my babies and that seemed to help. But I had three together so they had each other. They threw such a fit when I walked away but if I stood outside the Door for a bit to see if they calmed down quickly they always did.

Watch this... it will make your heart jump, but it will also show you what ducklings are made of... take a deep breath, daddy, Lucky isn't made of porcelain... :D ;)
