Don’t worry no one is sick, but I am suddenly craving to have some peafowl to add to the farm after going to an auction where I saw some beautiful birds. I have three questions.

1. The coop we have is a large Flight aviary for finches, doves, and the occasional parrot, but it doesn’t have the tall roof with netting because we have a serious bobcat problem at night and hawk problem during the day. Anyway the roof is just flat and made with small wire so the finches can‘T fit out and things can’t get in. So my question is, will the peacocks be okay in a flat topped cage because my cousins had pheasants in that sort of cage and whenever something would spook them they would fly into the top and break their necks.

2. We have other birds. In the aviary like I said are doves/pigeons and finches so if the peacocks will eat them, like chickens, then I will move them to our indoor setup. I also have chickens, ducks, and geese that free range during the day. (supervised after a bobcat killed some geese) I would hate to keep the beautiful birds locked up, even though they will have a large coop inside the aviary with lots of plants and water and perches. I know that my rooster and male goose despise each other so i am going to start letting the chickens out separately and I was hoping the peafowl could free range with them. (As long as no one gets each other sick) I just lost the first hen I have ever had to merreks the other day. :hit

3. Food. The rest of my flock eats a mixture of flock raiser pellets fromPurina,a small amount of scratch, and a handful of oyster shell. They also get the occasional handout of fruits, mealworms, vegetables, plus all the goodies they find in the woods while free ranging. I know the peacocks will have to eat a game bird mix, but can they have treats like watermelon rinds and lettuce. And I know this is kind of selfish but is there any other birds that will eat the gamefowl mix so we don’t buy it JUST for the peafowl.

I apologize for this going on for so long. The questions just kept coming as I was writing and I figured it would be best to give as many details as possible. Thanks ahead of time.
