Show Me Your Pallet Projects!

@chickengr Have not heard anything from you about your sick rabbit for a while. Just wondering if things got better? Hope so. :fl

thank you for asking. she died yesterday after 17-18 days of not eating. I wonder how she lived that long. I am going to breed another one to cover the loss soon.

Sorry to hear that your rabbit died. I think you did everything you could for her. Sounds like you a plan for the future. Thanks for responding. Take care.

Not much personally to talk about my pallet projects this time of year. Pretty much waiting for spring before I start up again, probably with a few new raised garden beds and some new planters for Dear Wife.

I am going to steal a post from @Smokerbill that was posted in the What are your Frugal and Sustainable Tips thread. He built a new run using primarily cull wood from Home Depot at 70% off. I think that post fits here where we discuss not only pallet projects but using salvaged wood and cull wood as well. His new run looks great to me.

This is the new run I've been building with cull lumber. It shares a wall with the secure run to the east, and there's another not-so-secure run next to that one with the coop inside.

A 36" door will go in where the ladder is sitting.

I made some Christmas tree decorations out of pallets and sold a few at a school fundraiser. Not super exciting but kind of fun.

:clap Nice job. I have seen other pallet projects like that for decorations online. I don't think I have the talent or imagination for creative stuff like that. Thanks for posting.

⚠️ Unexpected Find at Menards

I found another great deal at Menards on sale this week...

I overlooked that item when I was scanning the weekly flyer at Menards. Contrary to Dear Wife's belief, I don't automatically jump at every "FREE" offer at the store. It's a good thing I decided to check it out when I was in the store today.

I noticed that this 90 degree driver was made by Kreg, the leading brand in pocket hole supplies. Kreg is known for higher quality and higher priced pocket hole accessories. I have a couple of pocket hole kits, but the lesser well known Milescraft brand because they cost so much less. I did not have a 90 degree pocket hole driver in my kits.

I had wrongly assumed that this 90 degree drill driver attachment was one of those cheaper knock off brands that are not built to last. This Kreg unit, looks like a solid accessory built for the long run like all the stuff I see from Kreg. I don't know how or why Menards is offering them for FREE after rebate, but it looks like a great time to jump on it if you don't have one (limit two units for the rebate).

For comparison, I checked the current price on Amazon...

For those who might not know, this 90 degree Pocket-Hole Driver comes with the Kreg square head bit for Kreg pocket hole screws. But you can swap out that Kreg bit with any 1/4 inch drill bit or screw head for "normal" use. It's not limited to pocket hole projects. If you understand that, then this tool has even more value. It's also rated for impact drivers, so you can count on a higher quality build.

:idunno Is this an everyday tool? Well, not for me. I have an older inexpensive 90-degree drill driver attachment that I use only maybe once or twice a year on my projects. The model I bought was not made for heavy use. The Kreg 90 degree driver is. The limit on the rebate is two items. I bought one to toss into my pocket hole kit supplies, and the other unit goes into my drill driver accessories drawer in the tool cabinet.

I should admit that I do also have a Ryobi Right Angle Drill, which is really nice. I used it on a few projects where I had multiple tight spots to work on. A dedicated right angle drill is easier to use than the 90 degree drill driver adapter, but you might not really need it very often. My Ryobi right angle drill was about ~$100 but I got a good price on it in a kit with other tools I needed at the time. Point is this FREE Kreg 90-degree drill driver unit is probably more than enough for most people.

Picture of a right-angle drill like my Ryobi model...
