Oh man, I feel your pain! My scrappiest roo that I've ever owned was a bantam cochin! A cochin for criminy sake. He'd challenge anything in sight: other standard size chickens, the garden hose, buckets, sparrrows, etc.

I just figured it was 'short man' syndrome.....

My Silver Sebright roos, Alex and George, are cute little LOUD buggers. Yes, they are horn-dogs. They HAVE mellowed out a little bit on that regard now that they've matured. The crowing, on the other hand, is pretty much all day long. Like small dogs, Sebrights don't know they're little.

Lol...yes,I know...they are some of the POOREST hatchery quality you can get! Larry...single comb....Curly...bearded and Mo has the WORST feather pattern of all three even though everything else is right

I can't even think about eating them(thought I might but...no)...I know them too well.I do have LF meatbirds... but I raise those differently and do not associate with them like I have with these.Besides,as I said earlier...my DH does the butchering and would not have an easy time of gutting them...his hands are too big

How long was it for them to "slow down"? Mine are from this spring so....
I am really thinking of doing the small cage at night...tractor for the day unless I can come up with something better. No one wants small roos....free or not

What I know about roosters can be written on the back of a stamp, but I remember reading somewhere that if you keep your roosters in a cage that isn't tall enough for them to stand and stretch they won't crow. I don't know how much truth there is to that, but it might be worth a try.
