I have to talk POLISH!

I have 28/33 candled fertile eggs in my bater, 4 gold silkie from my own, 5 buff/white pekin (I swaped eggs with my biology teacher after I saw her at an action) and 18 gold laced polish bantam from my own

They should be hatching on friday, it's Tuesday today, when should I stop turning them? It's a manual incubator

i am definitely breeding for quality and trying to keep lines as pure as possible....

Hi, April 8, 2012
I hope you don't mind me jumping into this thread on Polish chickens. I am new to BackYard Chickens and my family is just getting started with raising chickens. We do not yet have an incubator and I am most interested in purchasing young bantam crested polish and bearded silkie pullets or chicks.

When my children were younger, we bred champion pedigreed rabbits and had a Rabbitry registered with the American Rabbit Breeders Association. My disabled daughter is older now, and has fallen in love wih silkies, crested polish and frizzles. While we are not interested in breeding chickens ourselves, we would like to support breeders like you all.

I am hoping that someone might have young pullets or chicks in a variety of colors for sale, that my daughter can raise along with the young chicks which she has now in our living room brooder (Buff Orpingtons, Wyandottes, Araucanas).

I have seen some recent ads from folks in California with bantam chicks for sale. They are incredibly gorgeous, but I worry that shipping to NYS might be too hard on chicks or pullets.

Please let me know if anyone has ideas on where I might find some pullets or chicks within a reasonable driving distance. I am traveling to and from Williamsburg, VA this coming week and could stop in areas not far from I95. Thanks in advance for your help.

Regards,
Tina

I wish I could help. I live in California and I have SQ bantam polish in many colors. I hope you find someone close to you.

Hey there and
welcome-byc.gif
Just remember though, there's actually not many Polish breeders on here. All Polish fanciers, owners, and simply fans are welcome, really. Most people here have them as pets, or like you, are looking for some. Your best bet is to look on Craigslist though. And good luck! Wish I could help ya but the most I can say is, most people on here actually do get their chicks shipped to and from any state, just choose the nearest hatchery to you and go from there. But remember, if you want a very beautiful, well patterned Polish that looks as they should, don't be too excited with mail ordered chicks. Then again, neither with locally bought ones. Good quality Polish aren't common, except bantams and WCBlacks from time to time.

As to the breeding mentioned above, aren't we talking about using a Gold Laced rooster? Correct me if I am mistaken on that, but if I am not, GL x White Crested anything does not make quality stock. If am mistaken, it would certainly be nice to see more good Polish around. Just make sure to follow the Standard of Perfection and to keep good birds.

Mostly black offspring.

That, or they will look much like my F1 Polish-based EE's - Varying amounts of black and silver/golden mixed, males will have spangling on breast, females will have black heads, silver patterned neck and breast.

Silver, gold, golden depends on who's mom, who's dad although your Self-Blue might also be carrying the silver gene, which means all offspring will be silver.

Either way you'll either have black offspring or mixed-colored EE-esque offspring. Not both though.

Wow!
I want to thank you all for the quick replies and input. Thanks also to mycutekitties regarding your note. My daughter would be in heaven if we could obtain some of your stock!
Best wishes,
Tina
