I have to talk POLISH!

Is anyone working on a lemon cuckoo or lemon laced polish project? I have a lemon laced/cuckoo roo and no girls. I bred him to my buff girls and all the babies are buff.

Here is his picture

Is this the rooster that you are calling lemon laced/cuckoo?

If so need better shots, he looks like a buff laced to me.

I would love to see pictures of the offspring if you have any.

I wish it were as easy as that. The buffs I have and have seen are much darker and the color seem deeper with a taupe base. Also, this guy does not actually have lacing. His chest feathers have a white dot on the end of each feather, not lacing and his top hat and saddle are barred. The buff laced roos I have seen have dark solid reddish/brown or laced saddles.

I realize he is a real mess, but I am hoping there is something here I can work with. I love his color. I would love to find polish that are equally as yellow, and barred patterning would be a bonus.

This guy hatched from eggs I purchased form SC Poultry. He was supposed to be crele, which is why I think he has barring, but I don't know what is in his gene pool. I am hoping there are other people out there that have crele project eggs that also hatched out yellow birds.

Thanks,

I see what you mean by the dots.
I guess it is just my eyes they ain't what they use to be.

Good luck with your project and please keep us posted as to the progress of it especially with pictures.

Mine seem to be molting now. Seems late in the season. I would think if they were going to molt, it would have been in the warmer weaher.

It is amazing how gentle some of the polish are, especially roosters. Hope he stays that gentle. He is very handsome.

I agree. Polish roos are real sweet hearts. I typically have 10 adult polish at a time and have never had an aggressive one. Some are super friendly, but I have had some real scattered brained nervous nelles too.

Sure, I will keep you posted as to the progress but first I need to find someone to breed him to. LOL

I think the color of the Self Buff Polish may be more of the color I am after. They seem to have more of the gold color that you find in the Buff Orpingtons and the Buff Leghorns which may be a better starting point than the buff laced which is more of a taupe, plus I think the lacing may be hard to get rid of.

I will keep looking, but since this guy is already 2 years old the clock is ticking : )

Anyone out there working on Self Buffs?

My rooster is a bit uppity right now, but I chalk that up to chicken puberty. I've been handling him every day and giving him treats, so hopefully he'll mellow out soon.

What astonishes me about the Polish is how much flat-out personality they all have. I mean, I've got some real interesting chickens from a variety of breeds, but it's like every Polish is a unique character unto him or herself, and they are so personable... They want a friend, whether that's a person or another chicken, and they will be by that BFF's side no matter what.
