I am curious though . . the ones that you say are red crested reds are not solid red but instead have partridge markings. I am wondering what they will look like as adults? Very pretty I would imagine!

the reason i got this batch of polish is because in the summer i got three polish babies, a red crested red being one of them. he was our favorite bird of the entire flock. totally sweet and always wanting to be near people. he was killed by a raccoon and my boyfriend wanted another because he thought he was the most handome our of the two polish roos. he also came from ideal and started out with these "partridge markings." they went away when he was around two months old. I think i remember my new hampshire feathering in this way as a chick too.

That is surprising that so much of the partridge markings went away. They will be pretty birds for sure!

I ended up with a solid red rooster that I guess you would call a sport out of the buff laced Polish eggs I hatched. He is the friendliest of all the Polish and has a really cute personality. Here is a couple of pictures of him (Andy.)

He has the little man attitude which cracks me up. When it is getting dark and I go into their pen, because he can't see well he attacks my shoes. I barely feel it he is so small. He stops as soon as I say his name. What a character . . hehe.
 
I have a Polish bantams that is almost 11 weeks old. She has been raised with four other bantams - Wyandotte, a BR, and two silkies. I have two bantam Araucanas that are 6 months old. The only problem that I have had with picking on her so far was with a lf EE chick that we have since rehomed. I haven't let the little ones free range yet. the older ones run around my yard all day. She is always the one the little houdini that escaped. First from the brooder then from the run. I usually find her crying frantically to get back in, but as often as not she has found her own way back in. She is always the first or second to run out for treats or to explore. It is usually a tie between her and the br followed by the Wyandotte and then silkie # 1 with silkie two waiting until she is sure that it all is safe. The two older ones will chase them. But I haven't seen any extreme picking. They seem to ignore the little ones. I am wondering if I am just lucky that no one picks on her or is this just because they are so young? Also, I want to know about cutting the crest. I only got her because I thought it would be fun to have a variety of birds. She will not be shown. I don't want to cut back her crest any more than I need to, but I don't want her to live a miserable, fearful, isolated life just for my amusement. I watched her staring myopically up at my dog yesterday through the run fence until the dog jumped and she ran like she was scalded. I am not sure that she wasn't expecting the dog to hand her treats. On the other hand she is still as fearless running out ahead of the crowd as ever. As long as she isn't cowering by herself can I assume she sees well enough?

I can't really tell from the pictures, how bad her crest is covering her eyes but just take blunt end scissors and trim right around her eyes. She may see better then you think. They're prone to go from standing still to jumping in the air and running around! She sounds like a character!
