I have to talk POLISH!

This is only my 3rd polish and I was wondering if someone with more experience can sex this little guy/gal for me. Its approximately 4 weeks old.

Is that a comb I'm seeing? If so, cockerel. If not, it looks like a pullet for now, but it's too young to tell for sure.

I'm happy to report that after a week or so of Oxytetracycline, my polish cockerel "John" Jett is almost never shaking his head, along with his silkie buddy. Thanks for the help!

Also, he's 10 weeks old, almost 11 weeks. Still no comb. When will I start seeing it?

No, no comb. I think it's the light in the pictures. I was really hoping for a boy. I have a blue and black girl already. Would of made for some cute chicks next year of it was a boy..... Though I guess there is still some hope since "she" is still young

Glad to hear your chicks are doing better. One of my girls scratches at one side of her head often, but the way her crest is growing lopsided I think that's what is causing it. I have checked her over time and time again and don't see a thing.

My crested breeds scratch at their heads too. I check them often for mites just to be sure, but I think they are just preening, like a chicken does in any other spot. My polish also rolls his head around in the dust. It's quite funny to watch.

I thought maybe they had mites, because they were shaking their heads, but when they started sneezing, I determined it was a mild respiratory infection, perhaps brought from the sparrows, or one of my flock add-ons (It appears I may have not quarantined well enough) It seems I was right, because they aren't doing it as much now.

Yup, your polish looks like a girl for now, but again, so did my cockerel at that age. Completely innocent, no comb, uniform crest, then BOOM! You'll just have to sit and wait :>

I've bounced back and forth on the gender of these two. Both are 4 months old. I'm pretty sure the smaller is a frazzle.

Any opinions?

Gandalf is officially a cockerel. He announced it quite loudly this afternoon. He's about 9 weeks now, I think.





One of the sweetest, friendliest chickens I have, likes to "play parrot" on my shoulder. Even nicer than the hens.




This was taken 6/5/15 if I recall correctly. He still has his head, he was just pecking at something on the other side.

He's a just a bantam, but he doesn't put up with crap from the big roosters...although the big fat Buff Orpington hens take offense to him now and then, and chase him.

Sooo.....it's officially 4 cockerels now, out of 23.
