I have to talk POLISH!

We got a bunch of chicks this week and our first set of polish, they are the friendliest chicks I've ever had or seen! They jump into your hand when you reach in the brooder! It's crazy and the other non polish chicks don't do it. So now my daughter is really in love with them!

I have Polish and Silkies. Everyone says how sweet Silkies are, but one of my Polish and my Phoenix hens are the sweetest. They are best friends since they were 2 days old- they always stick together. Whenever we are building pens and stuff, they have to "help".

None of my Silkies are lovey dovey! But, I also have a Polish roo that is the meanest chicken that I've ever had!

We had our 10 chicks shipped from Dick Horstman in PA. We are in West TN - and have had healthy chicks shipped from 2 Silkie breeders in PA with no issue. 10 chicks all looked fine when we took them out of the box. They were in a brooder next to other chicks at first. We lost one the first night. Fine, shipping stress. It happens. We fed and watered exactly the same as all our other chicks but every 3-4 days after that we would just find one dead until we were down to 4 chicks. Then we went maybe 10 days with no issue until the same thing started happening again. We hatch about 150 chicks a week and we have very few losses (not counting assisted hatches). The chicks in the brooder next to them did not have one death.
Perhaps you should send the bodies to your state vet and have them do a Necropsy to find out what is going on. Here is the link to the state vet in TN.

I have a Tolbunt Roo who is downright vicious. He's in a run and slams into the side of the run every time I pass by. He's trying to get out to kill me. He's so beautiful, but I honestly can't wait until I grow one up enough to replace him. He's also mean to his hens, which is inexcusable.

On a happy note, here's one of my brooders full of Bantam Polish chicks.

Great group of chicks!

I have only lost one of my 4 polish chicks. I lived about 6 weeks, but wasn't thriving. The others grew at different rates, but this one RCR was half the size of the smallest of the others. I did keep them warmer longer because I had them in brooder with turkey poults. I don't have much luck with D'uccles out of 5 I have one left. I ask the guy at feed store about their hardiness. I have raised about 50 chicks of different breeds this year losing only 2 until the D'uccles. He said some times it just depends that he couldn't raise Polish from chicks at home. I would call him a expert when it comes to poultry.

On another note they have frizzles (different breeds) coming in. I hope I can pick out a Polish. Do the frizzle chicks look any different than the reg chicks? Does anyone have pictures you can share to give me a example.

Here's our white crested black polish roo, Elvis. He was given to us because the other chickens were eating his head. Poor guy, even the quills were gone. He's growing back nicely now though. He's a lonely guy at the moment. We've got 4 baby polish, crossing my fingers at least two are girls for him!

our chicks shipped today. Hope they arrive before thursday! I can't wait!
I already told my daughter there will be no holding them the first day or two so they can de-stress and get comfortable. :)
Here's hoping they all survive!

From my limited experience just reading polish sexing it looks like your first is a boy and the second is a girl based on the crest. Of course I could be completely wrong! lol
