I have to talk POLISH!

In 2007 I started with chickens, and Jerseys and Polish were my favorites and still are. I do give them all haircuts around their face because they are calmer being able to see. With a bully hen, I leave the poof, LOL. They are pretty docile and fun to watch because they're somewhat goofy. I have a few that will jump in my lap and tell me their woes. One jumps on everyone's shoulder.

I love my polish, they aren't great layers but if you have several hens should get couple eggs everyday. they are not know to be setters but every bird is different, have had broodies out of breeds that weren't supposed to be setters. they do need a secure place to roam if you let them out-they have very large crest so vision is impaired. they can be flighty so need to make sure they stay secured, not know for wanting to be a lap pet BUT all mine are. my daughter makes sure every single bird on our property is spoiled rotten!

they can be able to be penned with other birds BUT if you are mixing them in as adults be ready for them to possibly get there crest and tails plucked. they are quite whimpy so they will be picked on if not careful. I have mixed them in with my other fowl which at first didn't go well but they learned to exist BUT now I have all my polish separate in their own pen. they are my favorite out of everything I have-roosters are just gorgeous! they can be very sweet and wonderful yard art.

Thank you all for the input! I will definitely get more than one when I get these cool birds. I am reading more and more interesting things that make me want them. My favorite description was from Seminolewinds......"goofy" !!

Yes, they are a trip. Even my hubby says when we have no more dog, Lola, one of my Polish, will be a house chicken.

I was lucky with most of my Polish were raised with Jerseys. But I had added to the flock and they ended up hiding all day. So they have their own pen and seem very happy to be in there.

Wi

Should I plan on keeping them in their own space?

I made mine their own coop. I did have my 2 oldest in with my layers, now they seem much happier. You can try keeping them with your others but most likely it wnt work. Just make sure u watch them very closely.

Well we are building a new coop, so maybe we can keep our old one for the Polish?

I have a Polish hen & roo with my mixed flock & at 1st she was head hen as she was oldest but now that everyone is close to laying she has been at the bottom of pecking order. We handled her more than all our others but she is still skittish & doesn't care to be caught...not a problem holding her tho. The roo is a pain at times with his loud & almost shrill crow ALL day! Also he can be aggressive with kids so we watch him real close. He flogged me once but I put him in his place!

I know a breeder in the Prescott area & plan to add a few more in the future to my flock!

My rooster is 3rd in command in my flock. My hen has moved out of the barn and was roosting in a tree. I got tiered of putting her in every night and moved her to the bantam coop. I think she didn't like the barn because I have several young cockerels in there. She is the tamest of all the chickens and will seek out attention and look for treats. She will run the cats off from their food and sit on turkeys backs. She is bold not timid.

Our goldie locks is the sweetest! She high tails it to anybody to be held, totly freaks out my sister. Lol! They are a real joy all in all, we've been very happy with all of them. Big John can be a little wild but he knows not to push it with me. Our polish, silkies, bantam cochins are our favorites. I think mine are much happier in their own seperate pen with all the same breeds. The 2 that are laying lay everyday, hopefully they all will start very soon.
