I have to talk POLISH!

Thanks everyone for your thoughts on Joe. I'd love to keep him, but neighbors would have a fit if he starts crowing. I think that I found someone who will give him a good home. Just hesitant to give him away if there was any chance he was a pullet!

Thanks again for your help!

Hello! Me and my brother are interested in polish chickens. We'll be getting an incubator this week, and we wanted some eggs in about three weeks or so. These will be for show... if anyone has any silver laced or buff laced, bantam or standard, please PM me! Thanks so much!!

one of my 12 week old chicks was limping yesterday evening, I was a bit worried but thought it was probably just a general bruise , just hurt his toe or something.
Today all the chicks rushed out their hut but the cockerel which had been limping yesterday looked even worse!! Looked kind of like splay leg,
Taken him to the vets today and he says it could be 1 of two things;

Ether he's going to be to totally fine and he had just got his leg caught on something
OR
He has Mareks,

One of my polish from the same batch hes started limping a bit as well today, the limping started with one leg and should pas to the other if it is mareks.

There are two sines of Mareks

1) 'Classical' Mareks shows splayed legs which is caused by the cells on the surface of the nerve becoming cancerous and leading to swelling of the sciatic nerve. Birds go off their legs due to partial paralysis and are unable to feed and drink; eventually dying of starvation and dehydration.

2) 'Acute’ tends to form tumours on the internal organs, causing enlargement of the organ involved and replacement of functional tissue with non functional cells until a point is reached when they can no longer function and the bird therefore dies.

Your solid yellow is likely a splash.....you should post pics for opinions on gender, color is not really a factor as much as crest.....and in about 4-5 weeks wattles...
Okay, here they are. Click to enlarge if necessary. I've read about sexing by crest, but I'm still not exactly sure what I'm looking at/for! Any help would be greatly apprecited. This is our 3rd attempt to get a single female from Ideal's straight run Polish! All males so far!

If you have two with the same symptoms, it is most likely Marek's. Polish are hit especially hard as are silkies. Remove the ones with symptoms into a quarantine area. You can try vitamin therapy or hypericum...I have never had any luck with either but, I keep trying. I just lost my Black Australorp yesterday and today, my 12 week old Mottled Java is limping...12 weeks seems to be the magic age

If you can, have one necropsied so that you will know exactly what you are dealing with. Marek's is a horrible disease.

Tricia at Feathers On The Ground has both of those varieties of Polish. Her BYC name is NoseyChickens

Opinions and critiques on this girl? The fair is coming up in Sept and my daughter would like to enter her (in the Junior exhibition.) She is our first polish soooo I'm not sure how good or bad she is. Please let me know anything good or bad you see about her. She is 13 weeks now and will be 22 weeks at fair time.
