you can learn more about the breed here- http://www.polishbreedersclub.com/ The better quality the polish the bigger and fuller the crest will be. Here is a helpful site for sexing polish chicks http://www.swpoultry.com/CindySite/Sexing_Polish.htmlSome quick questions as I am thinking about getting a polish. How do you tell the males from the females as chicks? Someone said it was easy, but didn't really explain. Do all the females crest look so bushy or is that just the type of polish. I like the beardless polish that have the thinner looking long "hat". Do you guys have any links that I could go to to learn about the Polish and what to expect? I don't plan on breeding or showing them. Just want one for fun to add to my flock. Thanks.

I have the Black Crested Whites. It is hard to get the pure white body, but it is possible. This is a fairly rare color and not a lot of folks are breeding them. I started with 10 and only kept 1 roo and 3 pullets. 1 of the pullets has a less than perfect crest but all 4 are nicely colored. Give yours time to grow and molt into their adult feathers before you cull them they can surprise you.
I have only had good luck sexing the chicks by their wings on about day 3. If you spread the wings out, the boys primaries will look like dandilion fluff, but girls will look more substantial. I found the pictures here on BYC somewhere (probably a search of "Feather sexing" could track them down.)
Most all other methods have failed me in trying to determine sex on polish.
And Welcome to Polish Cynthia & Flowerbh!!
Here's Daisy, a Bearded Buff Laced Polish with her broody assistant Houdinni, a Splash Dutch. They have 6 little chicks! 2 bantams, 1 turken/EE/silkie, 1 SilverLaced Wyandotte mix, 1 EE, and 1 Light Brahama mix. They're so proud! This picture is from like a week and a half ago.I'll go get some more.
