So 2 nights ago I got up at 5 like usual to let my dog out and start morning chores. I went to the slider on my deck opened it to let dog out and saw my chicken coop door in splinters and pieces on the ground

So I woke my DH he came out sure enough all but 4 birds are dead. I found what we now call Merida after "Brave" the hen with her wing hanging and a large chunk taken out but she survived

. Last night the largest bear I have ever seen over 300lb easy came back, and stayed about 4 hours walking around my goat and baby chick/retired hen house. I am soooo afraid he is going to eat my goats and remaning chickens!!

Anyway here are some photos of the damage he has caused not to mention I have kids who play out back there and he is NOT afraid of us at all!!!!

I'd call animal control, myself! I am sorry for your losses.

Time for a bearproof coop- is there even such a thing!? They can even get into cars.
We called fish and game they said you live in an area where there are bear 2 bad!! We can shoot him BUT we would have to go to court weather we have proof of damage or not to plead the case and can win or lose:(

Wow, up here you would be able to shoot it when it came on your property and you caught it trying to harm your kids and animals, no probelms at all.

So far 5 birds gone and 1 injured:( My poor roo is suffering from injured leg and Merida the hen has a bum wing:( Still glad they both survived even if Brady the roo can get testy at times. Getting ready to watch for his return tonight we are going to ger pics and make a ton of noise when he goes near the barn. I guess thats all we can do at this point

Here in MN, the beelkeepers in the norther part of the state put electric fence around their hives to keep the bears out. You may want to look into some good, strong electric fencing to keep your animals safe.
