I haven't watered my chickens for months...

How do I get the chickens to learn to use them?

I got mine at Cackle Hatchery in Lebanon MO. I just went in and picked them up. I live in Lebanon MO. They were around $7 each plus the cost of PVC pipe and barrel. They work great.

Where does one come across one of those red dealies there.

Pride&joy, The nipples are red in color. The curious nature of chickens is so strong that you probably couldn't keep them away from it. Of course there always is the possibility that they will make liars out of me. In that case, you should tap the nipple so that water drips out and they should investigate it.

I love this idea! Thanks for sharing. I have a blue barrel just like that sitting behind the garage waiting for my husband to make it into a rain barrel. Maybe this would be a better use for it!

pride&joy - My experience is the same as B'villechicken's. The chickens figured it out within a couple hours.

Thanks Hen_House_Rocks!, and you're welcome!

I think there are folks around here who may have combined the two ideas, i.e. chicken barrel gets filled by rain collector....but unless you have a nice system that only collects clean water from the roof, I suspect filling with a garden hose is a better way to go. Anyhow, might be worth searching the site for other folks experiences.
