I heard a new one yesterday

Quote:
LOL, I had some lady insist that we needed a rooster. The only way I got her to understand was telling her hens laying eggs is like having a period, you don't need a man around for one of those.

It's funny how people think they know everything.

I've explained it almost the same way: See, a woman has an egg going down no matter... and so does a hen. Course it depends who you're talking to if you say it that way or not. Young males would get just too embarrassed !

The analogy about the egg production farms is a good one to use with folks who would otherwise be too embarassed by the analogy to a woman. I'll be using that one next time someone tells me you can't get eggs without a rooster.

Sadly, as recently as two years ago, I was one of those silly people who thought you had to have a rooster to get eggs.

My friend explained it the same way you guys did, that a human female doesn't need a male to produce eggs. Boy did I feel silly! My friends are amazed by the whole process. And you are right, people like to hear all about them and most ask pretty good questions. For example, why is all the poop under the roost? They poop in their sleep?? Will you bring them inside this winter? How do they stay warm? Are you going to give some eggs or do I have to buy them? Will they stay in the yard if they go over the fence? (...really????)

Yup, people are funny alright!
