Texas y'all.
As I was enjoying my morning coffee, I heard a rooster crow. I did not catch him in the act so I’m unsure which chicken it is. Didn’t think I had any roosters so maybe y’all can help me figure out which one it is??? I think I see little spurs trying to grow on the Easter Egger… but I have no idea how to accurately sex chickens based on their appearance. Here’s some pics of the new flock and I would appreciate any help identifying their genders. I live in a farming community and already have a safe and happy home lined up ready for him/them to go live out their rooster lives.

A few mornings ago, I heard the most gosh-awful noise coming from my front porch. I thought something was trying to get to my teenage chickens who are in a grow-out pen. I Jumped out of bed, threw on my robe, and ran outside just in time to hear the noise coming from the pen! It was one of my ISA Brown mutt roos trying to crow, and making a real mess of it!

Since then, I've identified Crow Boy, who is the white roo. Since that first attempt, his crow is getting better, but still isn't great. I'm wondering if it's because he's a mutt.

Today, I heard a new crow, which had to come from one of the red roos. It was a much better crow than Crow Boy produced.

The reason they're mutts is that an acquaintance had tried to reproduce his ISA Browns. They're nice chickens, but egg production remains to be seen . . .

Some just take longer to perfect the crow, I've had some who took over a month before it sounded anything like a "typical" crow. I've also had extremely quiet crowers, a bantam Cochin mix you could not even hear from the front yard. I didn't witness him crowing until he was about 5 months old.
