I LOVE the local pet store (They're actually very nice to their animals, although I'm pretty sure their puppies are from Puppy Mills

) and I've always liked listening to the parrots talk and stuff. A lady was holding a 4-5 month old scarlet macaw, and she asked if anyone wanted to hold it... A woman and her son were there, and it was my dad and I! Everyone was scared of him and were asking things like "Doesn't he bite!?!?!??!!?!" He stepped onto my arm and it was soo awesome! Needless to say, I am now even more obsessed with parrots....

Heres a pic of him: http://www.allpetsclub.com/Birds/Av...8a1b65350&species=Macaw&location=Branford,+CT

If you find yourself wanting a first parrot, I suggest starting small, like a conure. Tons of personality in a small package! And won't set you back a couple grand (well, after a large, high quality cage, toys, food, the bird itself, and well baby vet appointment, you'll be out about a grand) just for the bird. They are like little macaws. And they can't take off your finger if they have a bad day.

And you have to think to the future. Are you going to college? Who is going to take care of the parrot while you are away? I was personally lucky enough to have parents who adored my Screechy Peachy just as much as I do during those years (Dad even developed through lots of trial and error a delicious, healthy birdie bread recipe that she loves as a treat!).

If I ever get a parrot, I would probably end up with a budgie and it would have to be when I would be old enough to get a job... Just two more years!!! I will probably end up working at that pet shop because I have a LOT of animal experience... but who knows!!!

I love the conures, btw.... The sun conures are very pretty, but they always seem to be expensive. I like the green cheeks instead

Your ear drums and the ears of everyone you live with will like green cheeks much, much better!!

I love large parrots and have had numerous amazons , macaws, cockatoos and hawkheaded parrots over the years. All of them were rescues that i helped re-hab and place into new homes. Most are just so cuddly and can become very bonded to you. I now raise Parisian Frill canaries and Spanish Timbrados and i so enjoy their song and vitality. Ruth

Macaws are so cool! My sister has a friend that raises them. She has one that is 30 years old and he is so smart its scary! I got to hold one named Buddy, he was 4 years old. Man they are heavy!

(your right, all pets club is puppymill puppies (please dont ever buy a live animal here there ALL factory raised))

but im glad you got to experience that, parrots are amazing creatures.
teils make nice first time birds too, green cheeks, linneolated parakeets ect...plenty of smaller birds that are great first time parrots
