I just bought a house with chickens in mind

Hi, I'm new and this is my first post. We are moving into a house on one acre this week. We bought the house with keeping chickens as our goal. Where we live, Sparks, NV, chickens are illegal to keep! But if you live out far enough and have no HOA no one should bother you. We are sooooooo excited to keep chickens for the first time. I am thinking of getting 6-8 chickens for my family of five. I definitely want Silkies and then a chicken of every color after that. We will be bringing home new chicks in the next two weeks. Wish me luck!

Welcome to Backyard chickens. Silkies are very difficult to sex before 4-5 mos. of age and sometimes not even till they crow or lay eggs. You may want to check out the "Silkie Thread," for pictures and more information.
