I just bought those suet bird treat things...

well, I went ahead and just made my own. I mixed up oatmeal cheerios and chicken fat and it made sort of a crumble and i threw it in the pen. Wow. They went after that faster than grapes, and thats a show!

also..how do you save the grease?..in a can(metal?, or plastic?)..in your fridge?....thanks, Wendy

here's one i just found on the internet. Im going to try it. Although, I just bought the berry one at the store for 1.99. Not sure how much i'd save making my own.

Melt 1 cup shortening (or lard) in a saucepan on very low heat.
•Add 1 cup peanut butter and stir until melted.
•To this add 1 cup plain flour and 3 cups plain cornmeal. Mix thoroughly.
•Add whole rolled oats, seeds, raisins or bread crumbs if you have any. The final consistency will be putty-like.
•Pour into a disposable 8 inch by 8 inch aluminum pan and allow to cool.
•Slice into quarters; each one should fit nicely into a suet cage, available at most garden centers.
•Store remaining squares in the refrigerator.

Now that we have so many eggs........seems we go through alot of bacon too? I have some left that I always use for frying green tomatoes. There gone now for the season though

you know, the more i think about it, who has time to make their own suet? not me, and for the price of the one i just bought, the recipe doesnt seem that economical, so, I think I will just stick with the one i made today. left over grease, some cheerios and some oatmeal. Super cheap and easy, and my chickens loved it. Why do I try to complicate everything?
