I went to the feed store for some DE today, and they had bronze turkeys out. And my little 2 y/o was in love with them, so I got 2 they are straight run so I have no clue what they are. Think my husband will notice? They are about as big as my 1 month old chicks right now.
So tell me about bronze turkeys as this is my very first pair and have no clue!

Nope no broad breasted bronze. those are next, because I want meat turkeys. These were just bronze. Care to make any wagers at how long it will take to notice? I'm going 3-4weeks

I'll say 2 weeks, when they start their two syllable Peeeep-pEEEP, chirping, which is a bit off from the chic, Peep, peep, peep.

When we heard the Peeeep-pEEP, we knew someone was lost... ie standing on the opposite side of the feeder vs the rest of the chicks.

Just do what I did when I first got turkeys. Tell your spouse they are a "special" type of chicken. Worked on my wife for over a month. Now she lives in fear that I will try the same with emus. Hmmm

Good luck, it might take longer than 3-4 weeks if he doesn't look at them every day...

I was going to try to get away with adding 12 cornish to my brooder box of 25, but DH could tells something was up by the way I said I love you. GO figure

We added laying hens, and he said I could keep 6 of the 12 chicks. Once I sold those 6 I realized I had sold them for enough money (+$3) to cover the cost of the 12, so we weren't out any money. We now have 18 chicks somehow. I don't think he's looked in the brooder lately. When I told him I wanted two turkey's he said, ok...thanksgiving and christmas. Now they are a boy and a girl, and I want to keep them and breed them and I'm trying to find fertile eggs to hatch more. He doesn't know that yet.

If he asks, I would just say, "These things happen."...it's the only answer I've come up with because when this all started I wanted to raise 6 cornish chickens for the freezer and that was it. We have 38 cornish, 18 pullet chicks, one young mystery chick (I think a roo) and two turkeys...all in about 2 months.

My poults are about 5 weeks old now and no way could they pass for a chick anymore
