I am on the waiting list for some batnam ducks which should arrive next month, but it is so hard to wait! I was at the feed store today (bad idea) buying some feed for my chickens and unconciously wandered over to the chick and duckling section (I was trying to avoid going over their for fear of taking them all home) and there were 5 muscovy ducklings just sitting in their cage and all seemed to be saying to me "take me! take me home with you!" with their sweet little peepy voices. I was about to buy them when a friend just happened to wander into the feed store and talked me out of it. My bantams will probably be worth waiting for, but it is so hard to wait for them! I am looking at pictures of ducklings on the web and reading people duck stories on BYC (pathetic, I know) but I am such a sucker for a cute little birdy face! I can't wait! AARRG!

Breathe.

I wanted to let you know that for months, I read anything duck, especially runner duck, and searched for runner duck videos online. What a case!

Now the real thing is here. They are sweet and beautiful.

I found that preparing myself really helped keep me calm and focused and patient, especially when I realized how much I needed to get ready for them (and by the way they arrived weeks early - a burp in the ordering system, no one's fault - and really, a blessing).

Where are you at, Juju? I have some baby Calls that are ready to go right now here in Illinois...these are just under a week old...they hardly come any cuter than this!

I am in Washinton, I would have ordered call ducks and they would have come sooner seeing as how they are not as rare as other bantam duck breeds, but I cannot have loud ducks. My neighbors hate all animals and yell at me even when my dog barks. I had this rooster and I brought him in to my room every night and late in the morning I let him outside to free range and my neighbor couldn't even deal with the rooster crowing during mid-day (aarg, sorry, I'm just venting). Thanks for the support! Duckies in about a month, and I am counting the days!

muscovy and you left em,you know they are called the quackless duck ....
I wish my feed store would have gotten muscovies,I had to order online and won't get em till mid to late may....

I felt the same way waiting for my ducks. Now that their here I love watching them, but I am also 8 months pregnant and am finding the wet shaving and food smell is one I could do with out! They are definitely a mixed blessing but ultimately are worth the wait. And if you were at the feed store and bought 2 duckies (wouldn't want one to get lonely) they could always help witht the little ones, showing them what to do and all of that...
