I just culled Ginger- First time, just need to share

I'm so sorry. It took alot of courage to put Ginger out of her misery.
Like you said, she is in Chickie Heaven now.

It has been so wonderful to come home tonight and read all these kind words, thank you. I am still very shaken and upset at losing Ginger and what I had to do. All your support and kindness is a blessing and very comforting

It gets easier. At least the poor thing didn't die from a mistake or neglect. I still have a little blame over loosing a chick to one of my dogs, but it did make me as carefull as I need to be to keep the others safe. The hurt lightens, even if you never forget.

I also want to say how sorry I am. Like many here, I have had to deal with a situation like that and it's absolutely horrible. Bless you for having the guts to do it. Go love the chicks you have and try to move on. Ginger would want that!

I sympathize with you. I culled my first today. I am sorry for your loss. I think I'm still in denial a bit. I almost didn't do it but then I saw how miserable she was.

I am so sorry you had to do it. Whatever method was chosen is not the important thing because we learn as we go...you did the right thing for her, no matter how hard it was for you.

Man, you guys are killing me. I know that someday I am going to have to do the same thing. I have twenty-10 week old pullets and all made it though the shipping process. Im not sure how to put them out of their misery and we all need to somehow figure out which method would be the quickest for them.

I had to have a couple of dogs put down and I also have had to have a beloved horse put down. I havent however had to do it myself so I really feel for you. I hope i have the courage when it comes time.

I'm sorry about little Ginger. I'm sure you did everything you could and were right about when it was time to let her go.

I have pet indoor finches as well as my chickens, goats, horse, dogs cats.

The first time I had to put down a little finch that was very ill I was horrified and it was terrible to do. I had asked my veterinarian about putting the little birdie down but they "didn't do birds" so I had to do it.

I put warm water in my sink and gently held her under. She went in seconds....she was that ill. Poor sweet thing.

Part of loving our animals and birds is doing the right thing by them. RIP Ginger.
