I just found my new gal Mazie, dead in her nesting box and I'm not sure what happened. She was treated for Coryza last month and seemed fine, gaining weight and looking more perky. This past week, I did notice that acted a bit standoffish during treat handout time. I attributed this to possibly being bullied by my RIR, Dorothy. I woke up this morning and isolated Dorothy to the side yard to give Mazie some space. Her death stumps me, could she have relapsed or not fully gotten over the Coryza? She appeared to have vomited , but I'm not sure if that was post mortem? What are the symptoms of impacted crop?
Thank you in advance, I've not had a chicken seemingly just die and I want to learn how to possible avoid this from happening again.

Are you planning to get a necropsy done or taking a look yourself? Sometimes it is difficult to figure out the reason for death without a closer inspection.

Thank you I don't plan on doing a necropsy, that's a bit out of my wheelhouse. I was just looking at her body for any obvious sign.

Odds are that you will not visually see any reason for her death. Unless there is an obvious external injury, or you know what was wrong, the only way to really know is to have a necropsy done.

One of those days, her body shows no signs of trauma or injury, She did have some hay in her mouth and seemed to have vomited?
