I Just Emptied an Impacted Crop (update good news pg 3)

that is wonderful news, texas star!

i'm still knocking on wood, but...my RIR hen has been alive for 12 days now and is eating very well. i still don't think her crop is emptying but her crop had been stretched very big for quite a while and her being 8 years old, i'm not sure it would go back. i'm still afraid to send her back to the pen with the other RIRs for fear she'll gorge and impact her crop again or worse, exploid her crop. yikes! lol i'm such a worry wort.

i intend to keep her in isolation for at least another week. it's been getting harder and harder since she is VERY hungry all the time now. she nearly bit my pinky off yesterday when i tried to reach in and grab her bowl. she grabbed my pinky with her beak and wouldn't let go and then turned her neck like she was trying to break my pinky off my hand. glad she wasn't a parrot. LOL

i figure it's a good sign. her stool is looking better. i plan on feeding her some crumbles next week.

again, thank you for the support and i'm so glad to hear your hen is doing so well.

I'm glad to hear she is doing well. I hope she makes a full recovery and that she will be out with the others on no time. I wish you and her all the best.
