Greetings, my fellow chicken hospitality specialists!
Our family has been in the chicken game for....oh, man, over a decade, but I really can't remember exactly how long.
It all started out with some silkies eggs my mom had been gifted by her cousin and we managed to successfully hatch those awesome little guys. Not long after she order some Barred Rock and Rhodie Red chicks and we've been in the game ever since. The current flock is 13 birds strong and a mix of Wyandottes, Reds, Easters Eggers, and Plymouths.
At this point, having chickens is just apart of all of life and we can't imagine not having them. It's just enjoyable to watch them scratch and forge around the yard, interacting with the goats and each other. Just yesterday our son managed to drop a whole Dorito in their yard and every bird within eye-shot ascended on it with extreme prejudice, which was a good laugh.
We're also avid homeschoolers, which the chickens (and goats) help out with immensely, learning animal husbandry is very important in our minds and is a skill and and knowledge that isn't overly prevalent in today's society.
Currently I'm in the middle of a career change, moving from outdoor retail sales to industrial-level food production, it's a very exciting change and I've been greatly blessed by the Lord with this opportunity.
We also love hiking, camping, plinking and just enjoying the outdoors.
