I walked out side to go feed and water my birds when i seen a pigeon walking out side my pigeon pen . I said oh crap did one escape today when me and my girl friend were moving my homers into a new pen . Then i seen it had a green band on its leg and i new it wasnt mine so i ran and side and said mom there is a pigeon in the barn area get the net she we got the net and waslked to the barn and found it eating between my dirtbike and a fence so i tried to get it but it flew to my house so i loked all the geese and ducks that i let out to free range threw down some bread and feed and wtached and waited for the pigeon to fly and hope it would come back . Sure enough it did and walked right in to my goose barn were i got it .

Its band said Dakota loft on it so i did a web search and come to find out she is from Minnasota

OMG - this would be so exciting to me! Are you going to track down her owners? Should you keep her over winter?

Poor bird must be so confused

i found the owner he wants me to call him . I dunno if i want to pay the long distance lol . I want to keep it . I hope he dont think im shipping it back to minnisotta lol

When i found a homing pigeon (landed on my porch) and I tracked the owner down- he wanted me to take it to an open field and release it. He said it would be able to get back on course and go home.

I really didnt feel comfortable doing that- and he reassured me that it would be fine. However, he lived a couple miles from me- so I met him halfway and handed it over.

lol . I dont think i would just toss the bird and wish it the best

The owner said he gave it to its friend and he must of lost it on a flight course and that his friend lives near me about an hour away .

I told him this isnt the first pigeon i have seen that has his green bands . This is just the first one i have been able to catch . I have seen 7 .

Although i did find a russian tumbler in my yard that flew into the wall above my garage during a storm

He told me he wants it back to fly this year so it must be a good bird and he offered me a few free young birds as s trade .

that is kewl that he offered you a trade for some birds. looking at his website, he's got some very very impressive birds that actually fly on competitions that are 600 miles long. i bet their like children to him and if you can give the bird back to him, i'm sure he'd appreciate it very much.

we found a homer at the end of our driveway a few weeks ago,,,it was banded, we talked to the feed store dude, and he gave us a # to call,, we did,, and it was some "cross country race" thingy with them. he said it might have hit the electric lines and fell,, or a hawk might of hit him,, and to let it rest, and take it out to a feild and let him go.so i did (after 3 days of rest hehe), and just a couple days ago a guy called my wife and thanked her, and told her the bird made it home.

EDITED: we've also caught 4 parakeets in our yard this year.

I found a homing pigeon yesterday near my bantams. I caught it with our chicken net! It let me get really close and it was easy to net it. It was exhausted. I read the band and called the club that it belonged to. It was from Chicago. They told me to give it food and water for a couple of days and the owner is going to call me. It's a beautiful bird. Green leg band as seen in the photo. I put it into an old hamster cage for the time being. Such neat birds. Apparently they had a race that went wrong and tons of birds are lost.

For the time being, I'm calling it Starvin' Marvin. That bird just ate the chick feed I gave it like it hadn't eaten in days. It was thirsty too.

my bird ooks just like that with the green leg band as well . Thats funny . Mine is also starving i was told by the owner alot of people who fly pigeons lost them this weekend due to the storms in florida . The breeder tod me he lost 100 pigeons . He said if you take a metal can and put feed in it and shake it that the homers will come to the sound of the feed can thats how the are trained
