I had no choice but to put them in after only 7-8 hours of setting. They were on my floor and because I dont have a carton right now they were laying on a towel. I had to get them in before my two year old got to them. I think they are safer in the bator then in his hands. On my first attempt on hatching two mystery duck eggs they survived even though they didnt really get to room temp. I just popped them in the makeshift bator. At this point I didnt know they were even supposed to sit and wait.
