Well, My birthday was Saturday. There is a tradition in our office that who ever's birthday it is comes in to work to find there desk decorated and pretty much trashed. WEll, our boss was out of town, and no one tampered with my desk, so I figured I was home free. Well, today is my boss's first day back, and I came in to my desk SURROUNDED in chicken wire and filled with easter grass and candy, and I here a peeping noise coming from a box in the middle of it. It took me about 10 mins to rip through all of the mess, but when I did, I found an ADORABLE little chick in the box! Needless to say, the mess was nothing but pleasant after that

and the little surprise! I have no clue what she is, besides a pullet. She is dark with a dot on the head like my barred rock, but has some bluish looking blashes here and there. Any suggestions?

oh no! please tell me she isnt a he! They said they got her at TSC, and that she was in the bin of pullets, and that they double checked with the person working several times... :hmm what makes you think she is a he?

And thanks for the b-day wishes btw!

Sent you a PM. The head spot looks to be large and irregular with "frosting" across the back of the head. That is the main sexing trait on BRs, but is the chick sort of silvery black rather than dark black? Are the leg fronts dark or mostly light? I'd probably need a different pic in natural light to be sure. On occasion, a pullet will exhibit male traits--I have a hen who did seem to be a cockerel, but is now 4 years old and the mother of many. Look at this site with the pics (Doms are sexed the same as BRs)--it's easier for you to tell its color in person than for us in a picture.
