I just killed my first chicken to eat

lol...so just when i thought i got every last feather n pin feather....when i ran water on it i could see what looked like peach fuz.....but then, i kept looking and i think it was just microscopic pieces of torn skin....my bird was mostly white so i cant tell......what do u think?

At 4 months old... those would probably be the "hairs" that come with each feather. You can use "fire" to singe them off. Ones at the store don't really have those because they are still just babies at 6 weeks old. Of course... could be just the top most layer of dead skin, the dermis, that is peeling away after the scalding. Wash it off and it'll cook up just fine.

Next time on the scalding, do the 140F water with a dab of dish soap and lots of agitating the feathers to make sure the heat gets down to each feather shaft and the skin. Should make the job a bit easier. The first is always the hardest.

There is no way I could ever kill a chicken to eat. There are plenty of other things to eat. Even though I have six roosters right now, no way will any of them end up as dinner. Three are bantams, one Polish and the other two are an Araucana and RIR were both supposed to be hens. So much for buying sexed chicks.

hey guess what guys! i found out theres a reason they dont tell you to take of the tail before you gut it.....the guts start comg out ABOVE the vent before your ready for them! yay me!
