So my hens have been laying for a while now but I never connected the squatting to sexual maturity. It happened every time I approached to send them back to the coop for the night so I thought it was some sort of defense mechanism. Wow ha ha that is so funny that they think I am their roo, I don't know if I should tell my hubby, it may totally weird him out. I am not even sure what to think of all of you who pleasure scratch your hens, I might try just petting ;-)

No scratching here

Squatting is a desire to breed. Not necessarily any connection to if eggs are imminent.

If roosters are with the flock, in my experience, hens don't squat for their owners.
