ahhhh those were the "bad ol' days" ...hahaha.. IF you do what's been suggested( and IMHO is excellent advice) and it doesn't work( for the following 5-6 years) then do what we ended up doing....move 800 miles away! LOL
When in doubt with your MIL - it is always helpful to say that that is the way your hubby likes/wants it done. How can she argue with that? And it makes you sound like a good wifey. Just makes sure your hubby knows this - so when his mom asks him all he has to do is nod.
And anyway, it IS how Hubby wants it done, he wants me happy, happy = my way of cooking (which he truly does prefer). If Hubby wants it a different way, he is welcome to cook (and he does now and then). And yeah, I think she is playing/testing/pushing your limits on purpose. I'd tell her in advance though about no duck, just to prevent her being "disappointed" and whining.
Turkey, as stated, is easy. I would do the duck too, just to mess with her.
Roasted Muscovy breast is supposed to be mouthwatering!! I'd give it a try! There are several topics on cooking duck right here on BYC! Just do a search, and PM the folks with pics of their cooked Muscovies to get a few recipes or ideas how to cook it. You'll do a wonderful job! Stop lyin though...it ALWAYS backfires!!!!!!
I'm so lucky! My MIL lives in Washington state and we are in Texas. The only time she comes to visit is when we can afford to fly her down. That is, it's been only for our wedding in 2000 and once in 2005. Plus, she is not a food person, nor does she like to cook. I know this is a rarity and I'm thankful for it.
Turkey is so insanely easy, though, as others said. I do like to cut an onion in half and put inside the cavity, making my dressing separate and not "stuffing". I baste through out the cooking with butter until I've used an entire stick.
Wow! Posts like this make me know more than ever how lucky I am. My mother-in-law never once butted into my marriage or made me mad. I loved that woman! Still do. She died ten years ago, and I miss her still; the world's just not the same without her.
