I Just Lost my ENTIRE flock:(****

Don't give up, get your plan together, start working on the dogs on their training. When you do get your chickens again, I would suggest you have an enclosed kennel or run for the dogs if they have to be left outside. Keep checking Craig's List. (I am on the hunt for an exterior door right now.)

I have two small dogs, one came be left alone with the chickens, because she thinks she is a chicken. And our roo puts her in line if she acts stupid. Our other dog is very mellow, but when I go in, he goes in with me.

Good luck with your new chickens when you get them.

That is so horrible that you lost your flock... Just today one of my son's friends came over to the house from down the road and his dog followed him.

My younger son told me that he had asked him if it might kill our chickens and the kid said "maybe"...I went up to the kid and said.."take your dog home now. Do not bring him here again."

Funny thing is, I got two of my chickens from his parents, and he swears that his dog is good around his chickens.

I don't care. His dog has not been around my chickens, and I'm not going to take that chance. I've had enough bad dog experiences. I told him that the bad dogs around here have a way of disappearing...

I am so sorry you lost your chickens... If i live near you you can have some of mine:cd

I mean that...

Years ago i had chickens in a pen and had trouble with foxes....they killed all my hens and ducks. So we dug down deep and put broken glass in first then a layer of cement, then glass and cement until we got to the top. We then build a wall up and fenced it off. Neither Fox or vermin bothered to dig again.

So sorry.

I recently found some baby chicks dead and some missing I thought the big hens had done the deed...Poobear(member) gave me a tip off that it was more likely a four legger than a 2 legger..it was a cat ..maybe one of mine ..sorted it now( locked the shed). The cats dont touch the big ones

Wishing you all the best for your new ones (you are welcome to some of mine if you live near)

also, the soft mouth is also a training issue. Some bird dogs are born with a natural instinct to carry gently; others are trained and worked with. Also, you have to think that most labs aren't from a bloodline that is actually worked in the fields so, like any trait, things that aren't being bred for will disappear. Dogs as a species don't have soft bites - they have teeth to crush things.
