I just set 5-21-11 in my home made incubator

The eggs will be turned for the last time tonight. At that time we're going to add the water and get the humidity up. They're due to hatch around Saturday-Sunday so I'll let you guys know what happens. Fingers are crossed!

Looking forward to seeing your candling pictures!

So I couldn't wait to candle... it's day 5 for me, but I got some not too bad pics to show.
this one shows the dark spot right by my handwritten O. Also shows veining, but you have to look hard to see it in the pic. In person was phenomenal!

This is a pic of one on it's side where you can see the air pocket and the mass. I'm ecstatic!

So far I'm happy with my progress.

Great photos!! We put our "babies" in lockdown last night. Now I'm nervously waiting for the first signs of a hatch... hopefully Saturday or Sunday!

Yippee. so glad to have found you guys. I set mine on 21st too! This is my third time and its so much more fun if you have a group hatching with you.

There's a really good piece about candling on here that i used last time. really good pictures too.

I'll be candling mine for the first time tomorrow night if I can wait that long. Its so light here at night at the moment and with marans and welsummers the eggs are soo dark its hard to know if i'll see anything, still I have pekins to check too, and a frizzle.

Good luck everyone. can't wait to see all the pictures of fuzzy buts.

Ok, I candled again on day 6 and have 8 good eggs out of 15. Definitely better than I expected. Of the 7 that were bad, only 1 had started to grow, but died (I opened them up). I did have one little problem that I hope won't affect the growth of the chicks. I noticed a funny chemical type smell, and discovered the next day that the light bulb had moved up and was against the plexiglass. It actually started to melt it! I did fix the bulb and turned the plexiglass so I could see if the problem was fixed, and it is. No more smell. Do you think I might end up with deformed or unhealthy chicks? The smell was there for maybe 15 hours before I discovered the source.

Wow! I just read the thread in which you talked all about your first hatch the other night. This is my inaugural run for a home made beer cooler bator. With the therm/hygrom in it I can fit 18 standard eggs. I just have the 5 EE eggs going now, but all 5 seem to be developing very nicely. I'm already planning building a bigger box and wiring in a turner.

Well I just did candling on all 5 of my remaining eggs, and I'm quite pleased to say all of 'em look great. They all had veining and the very definite spot. I even thought I saw some movement in two. It's crazy. I couldn't be much happier with the way it's going right now. I wish I had a larger batch of fertile eggs to test run, that's my only regret so far.

Anything yet?

Chirping, rolling, anything?

Candled all this morning...lots with veins & movement!

Not sure about 7 of them, a few look clear, but the shells are dark. I set them back in and will candle again in a few days

I'm worried that I'm not getting to turn my eggs enough. I turn them at 6am before we all leave, at 6pm when we all return, and again at 10pm before bed. Do ya'll think that's enough?
