Thanks for the welcome. I registered a few years ago and never posted. No internet for a while. Now I'm back. Starting over. Hubby (my enabler) has built me a new Chicken coop and pen and I'm starting my flock from shell. Candled this evening and found none of the duck eggs were fertile. Neither were the bantam cornish. And the oeg died about day 4 of incubation. So we will see how the others come out. today is day 14.
Oh man....that was close!! I didn't see any explosions in the bator, so I figured I better check each egg for cracks or something. I lifted each egg out, sniffed & put it back...until I got to one of the marans...it wouldn't come out of the turner. It was stuck there! So I took all of the eggs out of the bator and put them in an egg carton, wrapped with a warm towel. Took the turner outside to see if I could get the egg out...when I pushed it from the bottom it exploded!!! uuugggghhhh!!!
Gag gag gag!!! I'm glad I took it outside!
Got the turner cleaned up, cleaned out the incubator and wire...added a little bit of hydrogen peroxide with the water...eggs back in the bator now... I bet I was minutes from explosion in the incubator!!! Lucky...whew!! I didn't wipe down the eggs, though..think I should do that too?
Out of my 5 I have 2 that i'm really counting on and the other 3 are in the good LORD's hands. I hope they all make it, but if only one hatches then my home made bator worked. I've got some duck eggs lined up to try next....
Best of luck to everyone!

ROTFL about the near exploding egg. I have a pretty weak stomach... hope I never have to deal with a "stinky egg"!
OMG I can't believe it I was merrily cooking tea in the kitchen and heard cheeping, so i checked the bator and you wont believe it - i have my first pip.
that was 2 hours ago and she's already unzipping at quite a rate. 2 days early!!!
I hadn't even started staring into the bator expectantly.
how will i get anything done over the next few days now, you can bet the pekins take at least 21 days.
