I just set 5-21-11 in my home made incubator

I started this at the worst possible time I could've. I'm changing jobs from fabricator to office manager right in my hatch week. So I have to be so involved in work right now it ain't funny, and the "glowing box" as the kids call it has to be secondary. I have turned them so far apart, but at least 3x a day. I hope they hatch. I'm kinda glad to have so much going on at work to keep my mind off it.

I turn mine 3x a day, so I'm sure you're fine. I candled again last night, and it was so awesome! One of the chicks looked like it was dancing in it's shell! Kept moving around, kicking all over the place! I would love to take video, or at least pics, but I haven't figured out how to get good pics with my camera.

Less than a week left!!!

How's everyone doing?

Hey ya'll,
I'm pretty excited now myself. My kids are over it now, but I know they will be hovering over the incubator soon as I lockdown Wednesday. I realized last night that I had been running my humidity entirely too high. The air cells looked like 7 days and I was going on 14. I used a straw and sucked the water out of the bowl before I went to bed and now I'm trying to let some of the fluid evaporate before lockdown. This morning the cells were already noticeably larger. I think I'll get it dialed in. Right now I'm hoping for a 5/5 hatch. I feel much better about it. I'll be so glad after this is over. I've never been this distracted by anything in my life!

I still have 9 days. Getting really impatient. I got another broody, so now have all 11 eggs under chickens. One less worry for me, sure they'll do a better job than I will, lol. Going to candle tonight, hopefully all 11 are still going good.

So this weekend has been a HUGE eye opener for me about the importance of the humidity and controlling the development of the air cell. I've learned so much, hopefully not too late to save these 5 fuzzybutts. I'm looking forward to lockdown and outcome. I can't believe how consuming this is.
I hope you all are doing well. No one says much here.

Too impatient, trying to concentrate on other things, lol. Not sure what I'm going to get when mine hatch, the eggs were mostly from cochins, but in a mixed flock. Can't wait to see what my babies look like. 8 more days...Going so slow!!!! I think I have a 3rd hen trying to go broody, I'm hoping she'll wait. I've had a roo for about a week, and would like to hatch some of my own eggs. Thinking about seeing if they are fertile yet, and giving them to my BO that is sharing the nest with the silkie. Or just trying to break her, I really want the eggs and would rather wait a few weeks to make sure the roo's doing his job. Of course, knowing my luck I won't get another broody all summer.

Hi, I put eggs in 2 bators on 5/23/11. Alot of eggs...3 1/2 dz marans, 4silkie, 4 oe, 4-5 EE, 12 cornish, some xx, 12 duck eggs, .... about 80 eggs in all. Starting my flock from scratch. Haven't candled yet. Will try tonight. The maran eggs are to dark to candle I'm sure. So egg-cited to have support on the waiting game. Hoping all goes well.:

Well, Hello friend, and
welcome-byc.gif

You sure will find a whole lot of enablers in these forums. I started off with a flock of 20 chicks from tsc to eat ticks in my yard. Now, a month and a half later, I've built an incubator and have full plans of pumping out chickens left and right. I'm only doin 5 eggs on my trial run. I couldn't imagine 80! Keep posting, I'll be curious to see what you get out of all that.
