I just want to rave about my girls for a minute.

So I picked up 14 new hens on Sunday 5/2. They are white leghorns and gold sex links. I picked them up late as they were used to freeranging and had to wait for them to come home to roost before we could catch them. The trip home consisted of a 45min ride in a kennel in the back of a truck. I brought them home and put them in their new coop. The next morning I kept them in the coop so that they could get used to it. Same with the next day. and the next. So they were locked in a coop for three days after being used to freeranging. Their run is 14x14 On the fourth day I let them out. BUT even after all that and everything they went through I still got eggs. One still hasnt layed yet but I was totally expecting to have to wait.
Day 1 5/3 --11 of 14 layed
Day 2 5/4 --12 of 14 layed
Day 3 5/5 --13 of 14 layed
Day 4 5/6 --13 of 14 layed

What make you just think wow about your girls?

Best I ever got was 22/24, and now a quarter of them are broody.

What I love best is the egg itself. It is like a gem stone. It is perfect and wonderful. Everyday I marvel at how beautiful they are. ...then I crack them open and eat them.

I think my girls are WOW too. They eat almost anything, now between dogs and chickens never any waste, they keep everything virtually bug free, and each day they manage, it would seem without any effort, to produce that marvellous little nutrient package we call an egg.

13 out 0f 14 laying on just the 4th day is great,IMO (In My Opinion) I have 1 of 2 hens I recently added here2 1/2- 3 weeks ago 1 took off, to Romeo Roo next door, 1 is steadily laying 1 egg daily.~ as long as I keep her confined 'till she produces that egg!
