I killed 6 chicks I am so sorry

I am really sorry. I killed a baby chick also this weekend. I had two eggs that were supposed to hatch yesterday. This was out of 12. Temperature problems and my first hatch ever. Anyways I was checking on my eggs to see if I could hear or see anything and I could see no movement in one egg that we could always see movement in. I picked it up and candled it and nothing. It even looked kind of hollow inside like the chick had dissappeared. I honestly thought the chick had died so I cracked the egg opened and and the chick was not as far along as I thought he was and he was still alive. I felt so aweful. I cried and tried to help it but there was nothing I could do. Lesson learned. I will never do that again. I am truely sorry for your loss. Nikki

I did that once also and they were old expensive fish that had finally grown up huge and beautiful I felt so bad Yes we live and we learn.

I am so sorry that happened. Try to stop beating yourself up for it and go cuddle some of your just hatched fuzzy chicks, they are the best therapy.

Thanks everyone I knew if anyone would understand you all would. I'll go love the ones I have. Thanks again.

God bless you, honestly, we all do it. Perhaps not yet, or we've made big errors, but you are going to be OK, regain that love for your new fuzzy butts. They will not judge you, only that you love them and want to give them the quality life.
I believe there are reasons for everything, perhaps its for you to understand how fragile life is, to keep it in mind to not to take chances again.
Understand that I am not accusing you of not realizing how fragile life is, but perhaps someone else reading this does not. Through this lesson you may have taught some of the youngsters, first time chicken moms/dads or us old ones to be cautious.

Please don't be to harsh on yourself, give all the love you can to the brood you have now, they will show you joy and gratitude.

I'm glad you posted. Everyone can learn from other people's mistakes. Who would have thought they could heat up so quickly? Wow! I know I will be careful with my heat light for now on. Thank you so much for posting!

.... it is another of lifes lessons...... you will never make the mistake again, so it is a lesson well learned....karma...............

I did some eggs for someone else and my DH put them in that box. As I looked at them today for about 20 times I saw I didn't have the 100w light in there I had the 250w. But you can bet they were ok. I want so much to go back to TC and get more. But I will not. We counted 46 chicks that are ours. 4 of them are sexlinks and they are cockerels. I can really tell the difference in the RIR’s that I got from Pine Grove. They are a nice dark brown. So I guess I will enjoy all the ones we have and not get anymore.

Thanks for all your understanding. Dh doesn’t understand how I can get so upset about 6 chicks. But to us they all had hearts beating and I let them down.
