I killed her! ARRRGGGH!

Dont kick yourself in the butt too much. Accidents happen. I am sure we all have or will have our fair share of them too. I know I have. One day I left a piece of plywood that covered my brooder propped up against the wall and I think one of the turkeys tried to roost on it. It fell and when I came back down (as i too was working on their bedding) it had fallen and I had noticed it wasnt laying flat. The first thing I thought was there would be a shocked little chicken under, no it was a dead little chicken....ahhhhh....

these were for eggs not meat....but it was not coming back, no matter how many times I rubbed and shoke (gently) the body, it was gone. So into the pot she went. Take heart, it happens to all of us at some point.

It is heartbreaking, but it was an accident. I stepped on one of my cockatiels one time -- he had been hiding under a nightstand in the bedroom, and I did not know he was there. He ran out just as I took a step back out of the closet. It absolutely broke my heart.

Forgive yourself, and learn from it. Keep tabs on where they are when you're in the coop (and I keep tabs on where ALL the birds are now in the house). If may help to block them off from the area in which you're working. I'm sorry for your loss.
