I was stirring the bedding in my grow out pen...nice soft deep litter. 106 5-week old layers in there. Stepped back, and didn't recognise quick enough that it was not a cushion of bedding under my boot, but a bird! [IMG]

Poor little gal... She tried to run away and hide, but it was too late, she was too badly squished. I feel SOOO BADD! I know, I know, I still have 105 others, but dang it all! Every last one of my babies is important to me! [IMG]

To make matters worse, when I took her out to dispose of her, my lab grabbed her and took her to the dog house. He won't let me near her! He isn't eating her, he's guarding her! Hopefully, when she cools down enough, he'll recognise that she's dead, and make a meal of her. What a waste!!!!![IMG]

I wouldn't let him eat the poor bird, that will encourage him to eat live chickens. You surely don't want that.

Sorry about your bird. And I know you didn't ask, and I'm not sure how to word this, but you can't take something away from your dog? Seriously? It doesn't matter what it is, if I want it, I take it and they let me. I know, you didn't ask, but I just had to say.........
