So the story goes. I had some Wyandotte eggs in my incubator. However I realized I drastically misunderstood when their lockdown was and they were still being treated like normal eggs on day 21. So I thought that maybe they weren’t alive. I couldn’t bring myself to throw them away but I also didn’t want to keep them in the bator in case they exploded (our lockdown bator was still recovering from a previous eggsplosion). So I gave them to our broody Maran. Best case scenario she hatches them and stops sitting on our layer eggs. Worst case scenario I clean up some rotten eggs.
Well, she managed to hatch two out of three, however one seemed to have died at birth. But one is alive and healthy! And that’s our first chick ever even hatched on our property!
I’m really proud of myself for not throwing the eggs away. I knew if anyone had a chance of hatching them it would be a mama hen. And now I know better about when to put eggs on lockdown lol.
