The chickens have taken over. They have become my favorite pets. To the dismay of many, they come up in conversation constantly. All 19 of them have names. I'm getting fertile eggs for my broody broad Henrietta to sit on. My coop gets a thorough cleaning more often than my home. And now I'm up at 10 posting my new member post on BackYard Chickens. I have to get up in 6 hours. This is obsession. Any tips for Henrietta?

Welcome to BYC! I would limit the number of eggs Henriette sits on to no more than a dozen, and make sure she has plenty of fresh water and food close to the next box. Good luck with your hatch.

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

Haha yes, chickens are so addicting you can't stop!! LOL

Make sure she has food, water and comfy bedding. Also make sure there are no parasites in the nest. You may consider putting some herbs in there to soothe her, help with circulation and to prevent pests.

Give your broody no more eggs than she can comfortably cover (12 is a good number) and she'll do the rest. Just make sure she has food and water available when she gets up. Do NOT feed her on the nest! Broody poops are not something you want to have to clean up. Enjoy!

Sounds like you are thoroughly addicted along with the rest of us!! Sumi has given you some great advice and getting your broody all set up for incubating her eggs.

Good luck with the broody hatch AND your addiction!!
