I know I’m probably going to upset some ppl, but I’m genuinely confused..

Back to coop security:

Ours had a weenie latch on the door so I had hubby install another weenie latch on each door. Then I read somewhere (here) that raccoons can undo weenie latches so I had him install better latches. With carabiners through them all, just in case. He asked if I wanted him to install an eye scan reader on the door too, but I think the raccoons know how to use those too.

He mocks me when it takes me 27 minutes to break into my own coop, last weekend he hummed the Get Smart theme while I was at it….
Well to be fair, raccoons have thumbs! They’re sneaky little things! I haven’t encountered any with my flock (knock on wood) but I heard they just take eggs and chickens heads…uh bring on the locks and latches!! Your hubby sounds hilarious!

I can tell you that is not all they do.

But most of our problems are the mink farms.
(We were here first. They know what's going on with their mink.)

Mink..ugh we have those here! I haven’t personally seen one, but I think my coonhound keeps some critters away. They’re like weasels right? I heard they can squeeze in the smallest holes. Are they the blood suckers??

^^^^^^ THIS is the reason I joined BYC. More info with less time-wasting.
I hate watching videos of any kind, definitely prefer if I can just read an article if I'm looking for information. Videos waste your time and usually by the time they get to the point, you realize you already know it or it isn't even the information you were looking for. Movies and TV for fun are one thing, but informational/news videos are another and they seem to get worse and worse. BYC is fantastic for getting to the point and giving you the direct, written info alongside an entire forum willing to answer any additional questions, I really think there's no better place on the internet to get chicken advice.

Or you have to watch 10 minutes of them introducing their cat Mrs Fizzy pants before the actual uninformative video…

So I’ve been reading on another forum and YT, about “oops my hen hatched babies and I didn’t know”! Ok if you’ve got free rangers, a broody sneaks off and comes back with chicks-sure I totally see that. But for example there was a lady talking and showing, her hen and 18 babies! She didn’t know anything about it until she heard chirping one day. These chicken were kept in a barn. The hen hatched them in the barn. Or this other person who swears they collected eggs a few days ago, but look at these chicks! This hen had 9 in her NESTING BOX. So are these ppl seriously not checking on their chickens for 21 days?!?! I don’t understand. I check on my flocks multiple times a day. Do they have water, food. Is everyone ok? Especially in this horrible heat.
I collect eggs everyday. I know who did or didn’t lay. I’ve got 30 so it’s not a tiny flock. If I have to take a hen to the vet, his first question is when is the last time she laid. Am I going to stand there and say “gee I don’t know, I haven’t seen her in 3 weeks”. I just don’t get it. I thought chickens, yes they’re livestock, but chickens are living breathing animals that need care and attention. Am I the unreasonable one thinking chickens need to be checked on at LEAST once a day?
This was the part I just couldn't get.
Why? Why? Why?

Mink and ferrets are like weasels, yes.
I can... go on quite the upset rant about them... (mostly about the mink farm)
So I deleted that and started over!

Mink from mink farms are very different from their wild ancestors.

The basics are the same.
Carnivores, fit through small spaces, murder machines.
