I know I’m probably going to upset some ppl, but I’m genuinely confused..

It’s weird because most comments were oh how cute! Ooo those are some sweeties! I was the only one livid that this person didn’t check her chickens for 21 days!!
If she just does feeding and watering once a day, it would be very easy for her to not notice a broody if the hen wasn't laying in the nest box

If her barn is big I would see how it’s possible, especially if she’s not doing a head count every night. Assuming the chickens have the run of the barn. But it doesn’t seem very likely. Most likely what really happened is she thought it was dead and didn’t think to make a YouTube video until the chicks showed up.

I've had hens show up with chicks before. Usually it's because I'm just really bad at looking for nests, or in my ranging flock, I just assume one was taken by a predator. Although I'll be honest, I had one just 3 days ago show up with a chick that I had genuinely forgotten I still had since she looks similar to several other hens I have in that flock
Right, yours show up with chicks, or free ranging and surprise she’s baaack with additions. You didn’t just not eyeball your chickens for 21 days! 3 weeks without looking at the flock…blows my mind.

Some people have those feeders you can pour a whole bag of feed in and then giant bucket waterers precisely so they can go on vacation or whatever and not worry about it. That blows my mind. I have neighbors who I’ve chicken sat for and they told me not to worry about food or water for the week, just collect eggs. Not one set of neighbors-at least three. So I know it happens and some people just don’t want to be inconvenienced by the everyday feeding and watering. But this story kind of reminds me of those women who don’t realize they’re pregnant til the baby pops out. If you’ve ever grown a human you know there is a big piece of the puzzle missing.

No she had automatic waters and feeders. She definitely wasn’t going to her flock daily. (If it was true). And she couldn’t figure out who the mother was, or something weird. So she locked 3 hens in a cage, she guessed was the mother. Then added the babies, and the hen that didn’t peck them was the mother. I turned it off. I was..speechless.

Agreed. I’ve grown two humans, and I most definitely knew!! My back still reminds me of it!
I read on this forum somewhere, a person was going on vacation for several weeks and wanted to know what to do. The advice was to get automatic feeders and waterers. Um…ok if it was say a dog chained to a tree for several weeks alone, with food and water, thats animal neglect. It should be the same with chickens imo. It’s neglect.

If looking at an animal you own at least once a day is too much of a commitement for you . . . maybe you shouldn't own that animal.

(I realize people who own large flocks maybe can't set eyes on every individual chicken every day, but come on! Again: what if a chicken had an illness or injury and is just languishing in pain while you go "No worries, 4 more days until I have to refill the feeder!")

Right?! Anything could happen. An egg bound hen, a fall, heat stroke, picked on rooster..anything.
