I know it's a longshot but here goes....anyone from Maui???

I don't live in Maui...grumbling here in snowy(in October!!) Pennsylvania.
But I got married on the beach in Maui 11 years ago(Makena). We liked Maui the best of all the islands.
We did see lots of chickens - even on the beach.

.. I currently have too much! 1 frizzle roo, 2 black tailed japanese bantam hens, (one hatched my silkie's chick..long story) a buff silkie (she just hatched a chick 2 days ago and I think that was the japanese bantam's egg) that chick is soooo cute. I saw her little head peeking out from my silkie's wing and it was love!!!

fluffystuffs808, Just wondering if you free range your chickens or do mongooses (didn't know if it was called mongeese) attack them? We were over there last year to see the old,old Maui High School. Nice drive going there and through Hana.

Waiting on your pictures...

hang_loose (great name!) Actually, I have not seen any mongoose in awhile. I can leave my chickens out all day and they are fine. I am usually home when I leave them out and we are fenced in so "knock wood" they have been safe so far. So, why did you go see the old Maui high? I heard a reunion thing was going on? Were you able to go all the way around and come out through Kaupo when you went to Hana or did you have to turn around and drive back? A bridge was out from an earthquake and no one could go through for quite awhile. I promise to post pictures and I made a cute new chicken coop this weekend!!

fluffystuffs808, We went to the old Maui High School to see where my father and uncle went to high school before they went to Oahu. MY grandparents lived in one of the camps back behind there where they worked on the sugar plantation. My uncle and dad learned to swim in the irrigation ditches which helped them to get scholarships to Ohio State University....If you go to the sugarplantion museum, there is a picture of them with a couple of other "ditch boys" who won the USA Nationals that year...

Sorry,I got carried away.......... I will check into the reunion and also we did have to turn around and come back through Hana.

flluffy, getting late here. NIce talking with you.

Aloha!!!

Wow!! I love to hear stories like that. I will go and look for those pictures. You must be so proud of them! Its nice to hear stories of island boys making it big!!! Take care and hope to talk story soon!!
